A tribute band that regularly hosts guest spots by the members of the original band must be pretty unique – but that’s exactly what happens with The Magic of Santana.
The band was formed in the spring of 2010 with the declared aim of playing Santana’s music with the maximum authenticity. Founder member and guitarist Gerd Schlüter, a long-standing fan, had already met Carlos Santana in the States and built up good contacts with other band members.
In October 2010 the line-up met up in Gaga Studio, Hamburg, to swap ideas in an easy-going atmosphere: Jeff Cressman (horn), Dennis Chambers (drums), Dave Mathews (keyboards), Benny Rietveld (bass) and Raul Rekow (congas). The highlight of the meeting was a session by The Magic of Santana with Benny Rietveld and Raul Rekow in the recording studio.
From this inspiring collaboration came the idea of bringing in original Santana members for joint concerts. And they didn’t stop there. The Magic of Santana shared a stage with legendary singer Alex Ligertwood and today’s Santana singer Tony Lindsay, which wowed Tony Lindsay so much that he immediately arranged a similar concert back home in California with past and present members of the Santana Band.
And like the original band, the tribute band also invites a whole lot of guests on stage to light up those Latin fireworks: Gerd Schlüter (guit), Jürgen Sosnowski (guit, voc), Chris Härtel (keys, musical director), Martin “Wunz” Hohmeier (bs), Oliver Steinwede (dr), Andreas Rohde (perc, voc) and Jürgen Pfitzinger (perc).
The members of The Magic of Santana aim high, both in their musical craftsmanship and in their equipment. That’s why they use cables from the KLOTZ LaGrange and ProArtist series.
