The decibel is a logarithmic ratio between two electrical values, e.g. in attenuation, input power to output power.

The bel is a unit named in honour of Alexander Graham Bell, inventor of the telephone.

As a logarithmic ratio, it has no units. Decibels are expressed as dB; the base unit of the bel is not used.
