crimping

Mechanical joining method in which metal sleeves are crimped (pressed or squeezed) together to join electrical conductors and connectors.

To connect e.g. coaxial connectors with a coaxial cable, a crimping tool is used to push a metal sleeve over the cable shield and press it together.

Crimping can be used for single- and multi-strand conductors.

Crimping tools are designed for specific types of connector, e.g. for RJ45 connectors on network cables.
